Pune Police Arrests Tech Savvy Robber Called ‘Robinhood’

The Pune police arrested at tech savvy robber with alias ‘Robinhood’ and recovered Rs 1.2 crores in loot. The accused in the matter, identified as Mohammed Irfan alias Ujala alias Robinhood, a tech savvy robber, who took the alias as he reportedly sent huge sums of money as charity to his native place in Sitamarhi, located in the Mithila region of Bihar. Three other accused were also arrested alongside Mohammed Irfan.

The Pune city crime branch arrested four individuals, including the primary accused, Mohammed Irfan alias Ujala alias Robinhood, for a theft that occurred in Sindh Housing Society. The gang, consisting of Irfan, Shamim Shaikh, Abrar Shaikh, and Raju Mhatre, targeted a bungalow on Baner road, stealing expensive watches, gold jewellery, cash, and a licensed pistol.

The police used CCTV footage and discovered that the gang used a luxury car with a fake registration plate to enter the housing society. The police recovered valuables worth Rs1.21 crore, including the luxury Jaguar car.

The primary accused has been arrested multiple times before under the U.P. Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986.

The Facts of the Matter

A tech-savvy thief who targeted only the wealthy was arrested along with three accomplices by Pune city crime branch officers. The gang stole luxury watches, gold jewelry, cash, and a licensed pistol from a bungalow in Sindh Housing Society.

The primary accused, Mohammed Irfan alias Ujala alias Robinhood, was identified and arrested in Jalandhar, Punjab.

Luxury Jaguar, Valuable Worth Rs 1.21 Crores Recovered

The police recovered a luxury Jaguar car, expensive watches, and other valuables worth Rs 1.21 crore. The other team members posed as casual workers to catch the thief. The other three arrested were Shamim Shaikh of Bihar, Abrar Shaikh, and Raju Mhatre, both residents of Dharavi in Mumbai.

How the Gang Committed the Robberies

According to reports, the gang used a luxury car to enter the housing society so that security personnel and other residents would not suspect or question them. Additional commissioner of police (crime) Ramnath Pokale stated that “Abrar and Mhatre purchased the stolen watches from Irfan’s accomplice Shaikh. The prices of the recovered watches run into a few lakhs.”

Over 200 CCTV Cameras Analysed

The police studied over 200 CCTV cameras of the luxury car and found the car heading towards Nashik from Baner road. It was bearing a fake registration number plate, but soon the police learned about the real registration number of the car. Assistant commissioner of police (crime) Sunil Pawar said, “The gang uses a luxury car to enter the housing society so that the security personnel and other residents do not suspect or question them.”

Accused Given Alias “Robin Hood”

Irfan was arrested multiple times in different states and was even booked under the stringent Gangster Act earlier. He is known as Robin Hood as he reportedly spends a large amount on charity at his native place in Sitamarhi.

The police found a foreign-made pistol, 12 live cartridges, three expensive wristwatches, gold ornaments, and cash worth Rs 2 lakh in the stolen goods.

An FIR was lodged at Chaturshringi police station, and investigations revealed that a car owned by Dhanpal Singh was used by Irfan and his accomplices. The police followed the accused for about eight days before arresting Irfan.
