Geeta Patil aka Patil Kaki, an Entrepreneur Supports her Family by earning Rs 1 crore Annually

Maharashtrian homemaker Geeta Patil becomes an entrepreneur by launching a unique venture Patil Kaki that serves authentic Maharashtrian foods to thousands of customers every month, earning Rs 1 crore annually.
This is the story of a daughter who got the inspiration from her mother to feed people, an account of a wife and mother who saved her family through her culinary art and hard work and finally this is the journey of a woman who recognized her worth and created her own identity which is more than a homemaker, inspiring all the other women.
Geeta’s inspiration for capitalizing on her cooking skill comes from her Mother
48-year-old Geeta describes her mother as a home chef recalling the time when she used to be a little helper of her aai. Her father worked with the BMC and her mother, Kamlabai Nivugale, ran her tiffin service packing orders for 20 people every day. Geeta’s love for cooking and inspiration for starting a business based on this skill came from her mother.

Before, people in her locality often placed an order for chakli or puranpoli and Geeta says that she used to make it for them without charging anything. But in 2016, when her husband Govind lost his job, Geeta, for the first time, thought of opening a business from home using her cooking skill to run the family and feed her children. “Since we already had an established client base, we thought we could capitalise on that,” says Geeta.

Homemade Maharashtrian dishes attract 3000 orders every month
“The taste is absolutely authentic and the quality is really good. The best part about ordering from Patil Kaki is the service”, says Anuradha Johari, a customer of Patil Kaki.

The small business from home selling modak, puranpoli, chakli, poha, besan ladoo and chivda, the traditional snack and sweets of Maharashtra, is going strong since 2016. From serving a few customers in a month, Geeta’s venture today takes orders from 3,000 customers. On the whole, over 10,000 puranpoli and 500 kg of chakli are packed and delivered every month across Mumbai and Pune. Geeta says,” the first order came from a family living in Khar. The best part is that even today we get orders from them regularly.”
‘Patil Kaki’ becomes a brand across Mumbai and Pune
The annual revenue of the business was around 12 Lakh until 2021 when Geeta’s son Vinit joined the business and the revenue reached up to 1.4 crores annually. The team came up with the name ‘Patil Kaki’ to make it a brand. With his knowledge of branding and marketing, Vinit created a voice for his aai’s venture and made it more visible through social media. After years of running a business from a home kitchen, the team have taken up a 1,200 sq ft space in Santacruz.

Geeta expresses her joy and conveys her thanks to her son saying “It makes me feel so overwhelmed at times. I would on my own never have known how to market myself on social media platforms. This has been all thanks to Vinit.”
Employment opportunities for other women
During the covid-19 pandemic, ‘Patil Kaki’ became a resort for many women who sought to work as their husbands lost jobs. Geeta’s venture provides jobs to 25 other women who, according to her, “are working for the very first time.” These women workers comprise 70 per cent of their workforce. “Ably led by aai and Dhanashree Kaki, who joined the business in 2018, ‘Patil Kaki’ is now doing very well. What’s truly satisfying is that we have been able to employ so many women to work with us”, says Vinit.
