Ghaziabad Wedding Turns Violent as Hotel Staff Beats Family Over DJ Party

A wedding in Ghaziabad turned violent recently, as the hotel staff was caught on camera beating a family over an issue about DJ party. So far, 9 people have been held in the aftermath of the incident. The incident was reported from Grand Iris Hotel in Govindpuri and occurred earlier on Saturday. The family has alleged that the hotel staff and bouncers attacked them at the behest of the hotel owner. Shockingly, a 13-year-old boy also sustained injuries in the incident.

According to a TOI report, the family has alleged that the hotel staff molested a few women guests, including the groom’s sister, and tore her saree when they insisted the hotel staff play DJ music past midnight. Reportedly the groom and his brother sustained grievous injuries and were admitted to the ICU.

The family claimed that during the attack, the staff snatched a bag containing Rs 3 lakh and valuables. A CCTV footage surfacing on social media, evoking outrage, shows hotel staff standing on one side of the gate armed with sticks, while the family is seen pleading for mercy and to be let off.

The police have registered an FIR against the hotel owner and staff for molestation, sexual harassment, rioting, voluntarily causing hurt, and theft, and have arrested nine people in the case.

The Facts of the Matter

Lately, videos of violent fistfights between groups at high-rise societies in NCR have shed light on the untapped and unchecked aggression of the region’s inhabitants. From delivery agents getting beaten up over trivial reasons, to two groups of societies clashing over stray-dog issues, violence across NCR has erupted in small bursts, prompting experts to understand the cause of such aggression and violent tendencies.

Meanwhile, another shocking video has surfaced on social media from Ghaziabad, which showed a group of hotel staffers thrashing a family over a DJ party.

Wedding Festivities Turn Violent

Earlier on Saturday evening, a family had booked the Grand Iris Hotel in Govindpuri for a mehendi ceremony in Masuri, but things took a violent turn when a scuffle broke out between the family and the hotel staff.

The family had requested the hotel staff to continue playing music past midnight, but an objectionable remark by one of the staff members sparked an argument with the women guests. The situation escalated when the staff allegedly molested some of the women guests and tore a saree, a TOI report stated.

Groom, Brother Admitted to ICU

At the behest of the hotel owner, the staff and bouncers then attacked the family with sticks and confined them on the premises for two hours. The groom and his brother sustained grievous injuries and were admitted to the ICU for treatment, while a 13-year-old boy attending the party also sustained injuries trying to save his father from being beaten up.

CCTV Footage Shows Horrific Violence by Hotel Staff

A 1.17-minute-long video clip of the incident, shared multiple times on social media, purportedly showed the hotel staff armed with sticks on one side of a gate while the family, on the other side, pleaded to be let go. In another clip of 17 seconds, the hotel staff can be seen raining blows on the family members with sticks.

9 Arrested, Hotel Owner’s Son On the Run

According to the complainant, the hotel staff also snatched a bag containing Rs 3 lakh and some valuables during the melee. An FIR was registered against the hotel owner and staffers under IPC sections 354 (molestation), 354A (sexual harassment), 147 (rioting), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), and 379 (theft). DCP (rural) Ravi Kumar said that initial investigation revealed that the owner was not present on the hotel premises when the incident took place, but his son was seen in a video attacking a person and is now on the run.

So far, 9 people have been arrested in the incident.
