Class 5 Muslim Child Thrashed for Refusing to Raise ‘Jai Shree Ram’ Slogan in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa

A class 5 child of Muslim faith was recently thrashed for refusing to raise slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’ slogan in Khandwa city, Madhya Pradesh. According to reports, the 10-year-old boy was on his way to tuition, when the accused forced him to raise slogans of Jai Shree Ram. When the boy refused to do so, the accused thrashed him. The accused only let the boy go after the boy raised the slogans of Jai Shree Ram.

The matter came to the fore after the child’s father took to the police and raised a complaint regarding the incident. As per the reports, the incident took place under the Pandhana police station’s area in Khandwa city and occurred earlier on December 28. The accused in the matter has been identified as Ajay Bhil, the neighbour of the Muslim boy who was thrashed.

Following the incident, Anil Chauhan, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Khandwa, was quoted in a The Quint report saying, “We received a complaint in Pandhana police station that a boy (minor), while he was going to tuition, was harassed and forced to chant Jai Shri Ram by one Ajay Bhil. We registered an FIR under sections 295, 323 of the IPC and appropriate action will be taken post investigation,”.

The Facts of the Matter

There were times when songs about religious harmony were embedded in the nation’s conscience and ‘Hindu Muslim bhai bhai’ was a popular phrase. While there are still those who are respectful of others with different religious backgrounds, increasing religious polarization in the nation has led to rise in incidents of harassments over such differences.

In yet another such incident, a 10-year-old boy of Muslim faith, was recently thrashed by his Hindu neighbour for refusing to raise slogan of ‘Jai Shree Ram’. The incident was reported from Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh.

Father Finds Son Crying, Disturbed & Petrified

As per the son’s father, his son had gone to his tuition classes earlier on October 28 and returned within half an hour of leaving his home. The father found the victim boy crying and disturbed.

The concerned father asked the boy what has disturbed him, to which he said that one Ajay Bhil, who is their neighbur, stopped him and asked him to raise the slogan of Jai Shee Ram. When the 10-year-old boy didn’t do so, the accused thrashed the boy, only to stop after he did raise the slogan.

Boy’s Father Speaks About Living in Fear

Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, the young boy’s father said that the issue is not that his religious sentiments were hurt, but now he is living under the fear of something untoward happening in the future. Enraged over his son being thrashed, the father of the boy has sought strict action towards the accused.

Meanwhile, after the boy’s father filed a complaint with police, an FIR was registered and an investigation is to follow.

FIR Registered, Investigation to Follow

Anil Chauhan, DSP, Khandwa, was quoted in a The Quint report saying, “We received a complaint in Pandhana police station that a boy (minor), while he was going to tuition, was harassed and forced to chant Jai Shri Ram by one Ajay Bhil.”

An FIR has been filed under multiple sections of the IPC, including Section 295 (insult the religion of any class), and Section 323 (causing hurt).

Earlier in September this year, a Ghaziabad-based man of Muslim was also assaulted and asked to raise slogans of ‘Jai Shree Ram’. The victim of the assault had recorded the incident as a video on his phone and reported the same to the local police.
