Telangana: Five Class 10 Boys Gangrape 17-Year-Old Classmate, Film the Act, held
In Telangana, five class 10 students allegedly gangraped their 17-year-old classmate, filmed the act to threaten the victim further, and were later held by the cops after a complaint was raised. The incident was reported from Hayathnagar area of Hyderabad and the alleged accused were arrested earlier on Tuesday. The entire incident dates back to August 2022.
As per reports, the five boys, who study in classes 9 and 10, knew the victim who was their classmate and in class 10 of the school. Reportedly, the accused group of boys were known for roaming the school and watch pornographic films and videos on their phones together. The victim also knew the accused group, and used to speak with them freely at multiple occasions.
The accused minors took advantage of this situation and earlier on August 2022, sexually assaulted her at her home. In the first instance of the assault, one of the accused boys recorded the entire act on his phone and then threatened the girl to remain silent otherwise they would make the video go viral.
About 10 days later, one of the accused minors approached the victim and by threatening her with the video, sexually assaulted her again. The minor accused took another video of the act, and then shared the same with his friends.
The accused have been booked under POCSO, IT Act, and IPC.
Background
As per National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data from 2021, as many as 4,29,278 cases of crimes against women were registered, which was a sharp 15.3% increase from 2020 where 3,71,503 such crimes were registered. Meanwhile, Telangana registered the highest number of cases of crimes against women in Southern states with 20,865 such cases.
Recently, Telangana became the witness of a heinous incident which involved accused and victims who are both minors.

The Facts of the Matter
In Telangana, five minor boys, who are students of class 9 and class 10, allegedly raped a class 10 girl, who was their classmate. The incident was reported from Hyderabad’s Hayathnagar area. According to reports the accused boys allegedly took videos of the sexual assault, which they used to buy the victim’s silence, and then assault her one more time before a complaint was filed.

Accused & Victim Knew Each Other
According to reports, the five accused study in class 9 and 10 and were known for roaming around the school and watching pornographic content on their phones together. The victim, a 17-year-old class 10 girl, knew the accused, and reportedly spoke to them freely and openly. The victim’s nature was used as an advantage by the accused.
The Assault & The Threat
Earlier in August, the five accused went to the victim’s home and raped her. While the accused were in the middle of the act, one of their friends present there got his phone out and started recording the entire attack and assault
The accused group of men threatened the girl of leaking the video if she raises an alert or takes to the authorities. Ten days later, one of the accused students sexually assaulted her again one more time, and also recorded the attack on his phone.

Complaint Filed, Accused Booked
It was only when the accused shared the video to his other classmates via WhatsApp that the victim took to her parents and told them about the entire ordeal. A complaint was subsequently filed with the cops, and a probe was initiated.
Based on the investigation, the five accused were booked against sections of Indian Penal Code, Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
