Ratlam Medical College Seniors Caught on Video Slapping Juniors, 2nd Ragging Incident Reported Within Week

In Ratlam, seniors of a medical college were caught on video slapping their juniors. This was the second ragging incident reported from the state within week. The incident was reported from Ratlam’s Government Medical College, and the students that faced the brunt of the horrific abuse were all in first years. The incident took place earlier on Wednesday evening at the hostel of the undergraduate students.

According to reports, the senior MBBS students were ragging their juniors earlier on the intervening evening of July 27 and 28. Following the incident, Dr Anurag Jain, warden of the hostel reached at the hostel to take stock of the situation. However, he was met with abuse of a different kind. Some senior students allegedly threw alcohol bottles at the hostel warden.

The storm continued brewing in the hostel premises when a final year accompanied the warden to identify the rooms of the students involved in the matter, which caused another fight. Some senior students also broke doors of the final year student who helped the warden to identify the students involved in ragging.

This is the second such incident coming from the state. Earlier, students from Mahatma Gandhi Medical College, Indore, alleged that they were “ordered” to engage in unnatural sex as part of ragging.

The Facts of the Matter

While ragging has been criminalized by states across the country, and major colleges and universities have anti-ragging committees in place, the act continues to be as rampant as an epidemic. Days after the popular Mahatma Gandhi Medical college in Indore received outrage for its students facing ragging, another medical college in the state reported a similar instance.

In Ratlam’s Government Medical College, several juniors faced horrible abuse from their seniors in the form of ragging, and were seen on a video being slapped by their seniors.

Video Shows Junior Facing Abuse from Seniors

In various videos making rounds of social media, ranging from 30 seconds to 3 minutes, several senior students were seen slapping juniors standing in a line. The juniors were seen standing quietly in a line, with their heads down, taking slaps, one after the other. The seniors can also be heard hurling abuses at the future doctors, all huddled quietly.

Seniors Throw Alcohol Bottles at Warden

According to a TOI report, the incident further brewed storm at the hostel premises. Dr. Anurag Jain, hostel warden, reportedly took to the hostel at around 2.30 am on the intervening night of July 27 and 28 when informed about the matter. There, he was subjected to abuse when some seniors threw bottles of alcohol at him.

Door of Final Year Student Broken

Meanwhile, a final-year student accompanied the warden to the hostel in order to identify the rooms of the seniors involved in the matter. The next day, the seniors reportedly broke doors of the room of the final year student.

10 Students Suspended, Debarred

According to the same TOI report, the anti-ragging committee met twice following the incident to identify the accused seniors. The committee reportedly is in process of further identify other accused involved in the ragging. An FIR was also filed in the matter.

Following the ordeal, Dean Dr. Jitendra Gupta told media that the anti-ragging committee decided to suspend 10 students from hostel and debar them further from the classes for a year.

MGM, Indore Students Allege Horrific Ragging

This is the second such instance of ragging reported from the state. Earlier this week, juniors from the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College alleged that they were forced to indulge in unnatural sex and slap each other by the orders of their seniors.

“Juniors were also forced to slap each other and were beaten by the seniors when they failed to do so. Mobile phones were also kept away from them in the flats so that nothing could be recorded. Seniors also made comments on the body, figure, and skin colour of girl students of the junior batch,” the complaint, as quoted by Indiatimes read.

Following the allegations, FIR was registered against the students and as many as eight unidentified students were booked.
