CWG 2022: Smriti Mandhana Help India Register Comfortable Victory Over Pak by with 38 Balls to Spare

Smriti Mandhana Help India Register Comfortable Victory over Pak

In the Commonwealth Games 2022, Smriti Mandhana and Shefali Verma’s partnership helped India register a comfortable victory over Pakistan with 38 balls to spare. Having bowled out at 99, the Pakistani women’s bowling unit needed quick wickets in succession. However, both Mandhana and Verma had different plans. The opening duo were at their aggressive best and cruised past the 40-run mark within the sixth over.

Earlier in the game, Pakistan women’s team never looked much too comfortable on the crease, losing wickets as if a domino effect was kicked in. While Muneeba Ali’s 32 run inning helped the team at least put up a defendable total in the board, it was an India’s game to win right from the word go.

All Indian bowlers except Deepti Sharma claimed at least one wicket to their names. Radha Yadav an Shefali Verma looked at their lethal best, and shared 2 wickets each. Interestingly enough, Shefali Verma was handed the ball the second time in her T20 career, and ended up scalping her first wicket to give Indian fans much to rejoice and cheer.

Earlier on Sunday, 19-year-old Jeremy Lalrinnunga won a gold men’s in the 67kg weightlifting category. Prior to him, Mirabai Chanu made the country proud by winning a gold medal in the women’s 49kg weightlifting category.

The Facts of the Matter

India and Pakistan have always been arch rivals on the cricket field, and a contest between the two always brings the country closer to their television screens.

Today, Indian women’s cricket team played against Pakistan’s team and registered a comprehensive victory with 38 balls to spare. Shefali Verma had a great day at office, first scalping two wickets, and then hitting a couple of boundaries and a huge maximum, before her wicket was scalped when she was playing at 16.

Smriti Mandhana Shows Class

Mandhana, the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2022, meanwhile held the fort, and continued counter attacking the Pak bowling unit. She hit Anam Amin, Diana Biag for multiple boundaries, showing her class.

Right-handed Sabbhineni Meghana meanwhile looked tad jittery on her end, and gave her wicket away while playing at a concerning strike rate of 87.90.

Omaima Sohail Pakistan’s Silver Lining

Her wicket was scalped by Omaima Sohail who was bowling well on the other hand, and conceding less runs than other Pak ballers. She was the only baller who conceded an average below 7 runs (6.67).

In the end, it was Smriti who finished the game with style, hitting a boundary on the ball of Fatima Sana.

Indian Balling Unit Keeps Taking Wickets

In the first inning, the Indian bowling unit looked lethal as ever, bowling out Pakistan for 99 without Pakistan completing its quota of 20 overs. In the rain-curtailed game, which took away 2 overs from both the sides, Sneh Rana, Radha Yadav scalped two wickets each.

Winning Toss the Only Victory for Pak Women’s Team

While Pakistan won the toss, that turned out to be the team’s high point for the game. The team quickly lost their opener Iram Javed scoring a duck. Bismah Maroof looked to be in a decent form, and took the ballers to task. However, before she could cause much damage, she was sent to the dressing room, scoring 17 off 19 deliveries.
