Tamil Nadu 13-Year-Old Boy Takes Own Life Over Inactive Internet Connection and Not Being Able to Play PUBG

In Tamil Nadu, a 13-year-old boy took his own life over allegedly not being able to play his favourite video game PUBG and not being able to tolerate having an inactive internet connection. The incident was reported from Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi and occurred earlier on March 27. The deceased 13-year-old boy in the matter has been identified as 13-year-old Gugan.

Tragedy struck in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu when a 13-year-old boy, Gugan, allegedly took his life because he was unable to play online games due to inactive internet. The young boy had been spending a considerable amount of time playing games on his parents’ mobile phones, despite their repeated warnings against it.

However, on March 27, when the internet packs on both phones expired, Gugan allegedly hanged himself with his mother’s saree when no one was at home. Gugan’s parents, Susikaran and Vidhya Saraswathi, owned a truck shop in Thoothukudi district and had been warning their son to limit his screen time and focus on his studies.

However, the young boy paid no heed to their repeated warnings and continued to play games on his parents’ mobile phones after school hours.

The police have sent Gugan’s body for an autopsy, and a case has been registered.

The Facts of the Matter

The rise of technology and the expansion of digital devices have led to a surge in screen time among children and teenagers. In recent years, there have been several reports of young minors taking grave steps, such as self-harm and suicide, due to their addiction to gaming and screen time.

In one shocking incident that left a community reeling with grief and disbelief, a 13-year-old boy named Gugan allegedly took his own life after being unable to play his favorite online games due to inactive internet. The incident, which took place in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district on March 27th, has sparked widespread concern among parents and authorities.

Gugan was Spending Most Time on Online Gaming

Gugan was a Class 8 student who, according to police reports, had been spending an unhealthy amount of time playing PUBG on his parents’ mobile phones after school hours. Despite several warnings from his parents about the dangers of excessive screen time, Gugan appeared to be addicted to the games and would pay no heed to their concerns.

Deceased Begged his Mother to Give Internet Access

On the fateful day, both of Gugan’s parents’ mobile phones’ internet packs had exhausted, and he was unable to access his favorite games. In a fit of frustration and despair, Gugan begged his mother to ask his father to provide internet access on her phone so that he could continue playing. However, his mother, concerned about his studies, did not inform her husband.

Investigation Launched

When no one was at home, Gugan made a decision that would change his family’s life forever. He hung himself using his mother’s saree, leaving behind a shattered community struggling to come to terms with the tragedy. The police have since launched an investigation into the incident, and the boy’s body has been sent for an autopsy.

Grieving Father Calls on TN Govt

Gugan’s father, who owns a truck shop, expressed his heartbreak and regret over his son’s death. He revealed that despite being a top-performing student in his class, Gugan had been spending more time playing games on his phone than studying. The grieving father called on the Tamil Nadu government to take action against mobile games, which he believes pose a serious threat to young minds.
