Chinese University Creates “Remote Kiss”, Device with Silicon 'Lips’ for Long-Distance Couples to Upload Kisses

In a bizarre innovation turning heads, a Chinese university has created ‘remote kiss’, a device with silicon ‘lips’ using which long-distance couples can “upload’ kisses and receive them via the app. Dubbed “Remote Kiss,” the device enables users to send kisses to their partners from anywhere in the world via an app. The device is equipped with moving silicon “lips” that mimic the pressure, movement, and heat of a real kiss, thanks to its state-of-the-art sensors.

According to reports, the device is the brainchild of Jiang Zhongli, a man who had been in a long-distance relationship with his girlfriend during his university days. Zhongli and his girlfriend communicated solely through the phone, which sparked the idea of creating Remote Kiss.

The invention was patented by the Changzhou Vocational Institute of Mechatronic Technology, with Zhongli leading the team that designed the innovative contraption. With Remote Kiss, couples who are miles apart can feel the intimacy of a kiss as if they were right next to each other.

As we wait for the day when teleportation becomes a reality, Remote Kiss could be the next best thing, retailing at a reasonable 260 yuan (approximately Rs 3,000). Jiang Zhongli, who happens to be a graduate of the university filed for a patent in 2019, which recently expired in January 2023.

The Facts of the Matter

In the age of technology, sending a kiss to your loved one across long distances just got a whole lot easier – and weirder. A Chinese tech company claims to have invented a device that allows users to share “real” physical intimacy by simulating a kiss over the internet. Equipped with sensors and actuators, the device replicates the pressure, movement and temperature of a user’s lips to mimic a real kiss.

The device is dubbed “Remote Kiss” and has been patented by Changzhou Vocational Institute of Mechatronic Technology, with mastermind Jiang Zhongli who himself was in a long-distance relationship.

How does “Remote Kiss” Work?

To use the Remote Kiss device, users must download a mobile app and plug the contraption into their phone’s charging port. After pairing with their partner on the app, they can start a video call and transmit the kissing motion to each other.

The recently popular “kissing device” with its warm silicone lips is reportedly fitted with pressure sensors and actuators that can replicate a real kiss by imitating the pressure, movement, and temperature of the user’s lips. Not only can the device simulate the kissing motion, but it can also transmit the sound of the user’s kissing.

“Kissing Square” Feature for Anonymous Kissing

In addition to long-distance couples, the app also allows users to anonymously pair up with strangers in the “kissing square” function. If two strangers match successfully and like each other, they can request to exchange kisses. Users can also “upload” their kisses in the app for others to download and experience. The device is available for purchase on China’s Taobao platform for 260 yuan (Rs 3,000).

Mastermind Behind Innovation was in Long-Distance

Jiang Zhongli, the mastermind behind the innovative kissing device, shared in an interview with China’s state-run Global Times, “During my university days, my girlfriend and I were in a long-distance relationship, and our only means of communication were through the phone. This is where I drew inspiration for the device.”

According to the outlet, Jiang applied for a patent in 2019, but it expired in January 2023. He expressed his desire for someone to take an interest in the device and refine and improve its design.
