The matter came to the fore after a complaint was filed by one Swapan Roy earlier on January 8 about the theft of his Toyota Innova Crysta from Anand Niketan. A case was registered and the police started checking CCTV cameras and traced the car to an Outer Delhi godown where multiple raids were carried out.

The accused were arrested and were identified as Lucky, Safeek, Majim, and Ram. The accused were arrested from the godown containing over fifty dismantled premium automobile parts. It was Ashish who had taught them how to steal cars. Over the course of weeks, the accused stole 20 high-end cars in Delhi and dismantled them to sell the parts to scrap dealers.

Gang Leader Suffering from Blood Cancer

In 2018, Ashu, a native of Haryana, found out about his cancer. At that time, he stole liquor for smuggling. He then came in contact with the accused gang, who told him about the profits that can be pocketed by dismantling vehicles and selling scraps to dealer. It should be noted that accused Lucky is Ashu’s cousin.

How the Gang Worked

A TOI report quoted an investigator giving more details about the case. “Suppliers called him with descriptions. Once a vehicle was stolen, one of the thieves called Ashu to tell him where the car was parked with the keys. Ashu then asked his cousin to go and collect the vehicle. He often used Lucky’s phone to talk to thieve,” the investigation officer said.
