IndiGo Plane Catches Fire at Delhi Airport Before Taking Off, DGCA Orders Probe | Video
An IndiGo plane caught fire at the Delhi Airport moments before taking off, following which DGCA has ordered a probe in the matter. Video of the incident shows one of the engines of the plane engulfed in flame, sending off sparks all over the runway. The incident was reported from IndiGo flight 6E-2131 which was flying from Delhi to Bengaluru. It should be noted that IndiGo chose to use the term ‘technical issue’, instead of mentioning fire and sparks.
“An aircraft operating flight 6E2131 from Delhi to Bangalore experienced a technical issue while on take-off roll, immediately after which the pilot aborted the take-off and the aircraft returned to the bay. All passengers and crew are safe and an alternate aircraft is being arranged to operate the flight. We regret the inconvenience caused to the passengers,” the IndiGo statement read.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the immediate aftermath of the incident. As per reports, the 6E-2131 flight was carrying as many as 177 passengers and 7 crew members. The incident happened just when the plane was preparing to take off. The plane was immediately stopped in the wake of the fire, and all the passengers were deboarded.
A SpiceJet pilot in the airline’s plane was behind the IndiGo aircraft saw the mishap and alerted the ATC.
The Facts of the Matter
After SpiceJet airline’s string of mishaps that was reported earlier this year, it’s low-cost Indian carrier IndiGo that is in news for a similar mishap. Earlier on October 28, a Bengaluru-bound IndiGo aircraft flying from Delhi was grounded at the airport after sparks were spotted coming from the aircraft’s engine. IndiGo called the mishap a ‘technical issue’, and a probe has been ordered by the DCGA.
In the video of the incident widely shared on social media, passengers of the IndiGo flight 6E-2131 can be heard sounding panicked and alarm. The video then shows sparks flying all over the runway of the airstrip with one engine of the airplane engulfed in flames.
