Gurugram Man Gets Rescued from Lift, Rewards Security Guard with Slap & Abuses, Arrested

In a blood-curdling incident caught on video, a man in Gurugram, who was rescued from a stuck lift, rewarded his security guard with slaps and abuses. The man was later arrested amid massive outrage on social media. The incident was reported from a high-rise residential society in Gurugram’s Sector 50. The man who conducted himself in the inhumane manner was identified as Varun Nath (39).

According to reports, Varun Nath was stuck inside an elevator sometime around 7.20 am. He reached out to security guard Ashok Kumar through the intercom. Soon enough, the security guard helped the man come out of the lift. While most people would thank the security guard for quick intervention, Varun Nath reacted violently and inhumanely.

As soon as the lift opened, Varun started throwing slaps at the security guard and abused him repeatedly. He further threatened the security guard of killing him. CCTV footage of the incident shows Varun cornering the security guard and hitting him. Meanwhile, the security guard can be seen trying to explain the matter.

“When flat owners suffer from this notion that they have colonised the poor. Bashing up a lift man- who actually rescued him. The criminal levels of privilege. After Noida, now in Gurugram,” prominent journalist Sanket Upadhyay tweeted, adding the video of the incident.

The Facts of the Matter

A 39-year-old businessman from Gurugram was recently arrested after he assaulted a security guard, who actually helped him out of a stuck elevator. The incident was reported from Sector 50’s Close North Society, Nirvana Country, Gurugram.

The entire ordeal of 39-year-old Varun Nath assaulting security guard Ashok Kumar after being rescued was caught on CCTV, visuals of which are going viral on social media.

What Does the Video Show?

The minute-and-a-half video shows security personnel of the high-rise apartment building gathered around an elevator. A security guard can be seen talking to Nath from intercom. Meanwhile, two other security personnel manage to get Nath out of the stuck elevator.

As soon as Nath steps out of the elevator, he exhibits the full extent of his privilege. He drops the bag he’s carrying and slaps Ashok Kumar, a security guard, multiple times and allegedly also abused at him. The security guard can be seen trying to reason with Nath, who continues antagonizing him.

Varun Nath then corners another security personnel and repeatedly starts hitting him. Not a single security personnel appeared to be provoking Nath, who went on his inhumane behaviour.

Security Personnel Stage Protest

Following the horrific incident, security personnel of the society came together and staged a protest. After receiving an alert about the escalating situation, a police team from Sector 50 police station reached the spot. Subsequently, Ashok Kumar filed a complaint against Varun regarding the assault.

Accused was Stuck, Threatened to Kill Security Guard

As per Kumar’s complaint, Varun Nath got stuck inside an elevator in Tower 12 of the building sometime around 7.20 am. He reached out to Kumar through the lift intercom. After being rescued from the stuck lift, the accused started hurling abuses at Kumar, slapped him repeatedly and threatened to kill him. He also slapped the lift operator.

An FIR was registered based on the complaint and Varun Nath was arrested. He was booked under multiple sections of IPC, including Section 323 (causing hurt), Section 506 (criminal intimidation).
