BJP Leader Seema Patra, Who Physically Assaulted & Forced House Help to Lick Urine, Arrested

BJP leader Seema Patra, who allegedly physically assaulted & forced her house help to lick urine, was recently arrested for torturing the said victim. The matter came to the fore after the domestic help, identified as Sunita, from the residence of BJP leader Seema Patra and her former IAS husband Maheshwar Patra. A tribal woman, Sunita is a native of Jharkhand’s Gumla district.

It should be noted that Sunita was rescued thanks to Seema Patra’s son Ayushman’s efforts and intervention. According to an India Today report, Ayushman had earlier tried to help Sunita and had also talked about the torture she was subjected to, to his friend Vivek Baske. Earlier Sunita broke her silence and told Vivek about the horrors that she was enduring, following which Vivek made sure she was rescued and admitted to a health care facility.

Earlier, a Twitter handle called The Dalit Voice shared video of Sunita lying in a hospital bed with injuries all over her. The Twitter handle in one of its tweets also alleged that Sunita was forced to “lick urine” and was further burnt with iron rods multiple times.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma wrote to the Jharkhand DGP and called for the arrest of the BJP leader.

The Facts of the Matter

Based on complaint filed by Argoda police station, BJP leader Seema Patra was arrested for torturing her domestic house help for nine years. The ruling party also suspended its women’s wing leader Patra, who is the wife of a former IAS officer. The suspension and arrest came after reports of her involvement in torturing and physically assaulting her domestic help surfaced in media.

House help Subjected to Blood-Curdling Horrors

The house help, identified as Sunita, was admitted to the RIMS (Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences), Jharkhand. A native of Gumla, Jharkhand, Sunita had been working at Seema’s residence for the last nine years. In one of the videos gone viral, Suita can be heard claiming that she was beaten by hot pans, forced to lick urine, and burnt by hot iron rods, by her employer.

How Sunita was Rescued

According to the FIR, Vivek Anand Baskey, a Jharkhand government employee, received a tip-off from the accused BJP leader’s son Ayushman. Ayushman reportedly tried to shield Sunita from the relentless abuse she was subjected to. Further, Ayushman also showed pictures of bruised and injured Sunita to Vivek, who then gave the same input to the police.

Accused Got Son Admitted in Psychiatric Centre

The police acted on Baskey’s tip-off and rescued Sunita from Patra’s residence earlier last week. On Tuesday, the police recorded Sunita’s statement before the magistrate. It should be noted that accused leader Seema Patra also got her son admitted to a psychiatric centre after he started objecting to the house help’s torture.

It should be noted that Sunita’s teeth were allegedly broken with an iron rod. When she was rescued, she could barely stand on her own. The police found her in a locked room without any food or water. She was rushed to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences.

Governor Calls Out Police for Inaction

Earlier, Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais directed the DGP to submit an action report over the incident in two days. He also called the police out for “inaction”. “Seema Patra, wife of a former IAS officer, physically abused her domestic help in Ashok Nagar in Ranchi and why the DGP has not acted against the accused. It is a grave problem,” a press release from Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais read.
