Caught on Cam: Man Dressed as Elderly Woman on Wheelchair Tries to Vandalize Mona Lisa at The Louvre
In a shocking moment caught on cam, a man who was dressed as an elderly woman on wheelchair tried to vandalize Mona Lisa at the Louvre. The headline in itself is the most 2022esque headline that has emerged recently. Mona Lisa, one of the most valuable paintings in the world, that attracts millions of tourists and art enthusiasts across the world, is displayed at The Louvre Museum, Paris, France and has been the objection of fascination since 1797 when it was first brought to The Louvre.
Earlier on Sunday, visuals of a caked Mona Lisa painting went viral on social media after a man threw a creamy cake on the painting in an attempt to vandalize it. It should be noted that the painting suffered no damage as it is protected by a thick glass cover at all times.
According to the eye-witnesses, the vandalizer was a man who had disguised himself as an elderly woman wheel chair. The man somehow leapt from his wheelchair, dashed towards La Gioconda, the place where the painting is placed, and threw a piece of cake at the painting.
Before matters could escalate, the security personnel rushed to the spot and evicted the man out of the museum.
The Facts of the Matter
Leonardo Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa is one of the most talked about, most visited, most written about and most looked at, paintings in the modern history. Thanks to the mystery and enigma around the painting, it is currently holding the Guinness World Record for the highest known painting insurance valuation in history ($870 million).
Recently, Mona Lisa endured another attempt at vandalizing after a man posing as an elderly woman on a wheelchair threw a cake on the Leonardo da Vinci’s painting. The entire ordeal was caught on cam, visuals of which are going viral on Twitter.

Then proceeds to smear cake on the glass, and throws roses everywhere all before being tackled by security.??”, the tweet read.

Mona Lisa Vandalized Because of “Earth”
The man explained the motive behind his bizarre stunt as he was being evicted out of the museum, “Think of the earth, artists think of the earth. All artists think of the earth. That’s why I did it,” he was found shouting.”
Thanks to its fame, the Mona Lisa not only attracts art enthusiasts, but also vandals. Because of this, it is currently one of the best-protected artworks across the nation. This was not the first attempt of someone trying to vandalize the artwork.
Shocking Instances of Vandalism Endured by Mona Lisa
Earlier in 1956, a vandal doused the painting with acid when it was in France’s Montauban. The same year, a man threw a rock at the painting which led to some pigment loss over the painting. The area which suffered the damage was painted over later.
Similarly in 1975, a woman sprayed red paint at the painting when it was displayed at the Tokyo national Museum. In 2019, a woman who had been denied French citizenship, threw a teacup at the painting.
