Rajasthan: Man Gets Wife Gang-Raped Over Dowry, Takes Video & Shares it on Internet
In a shocking incident reported from Rajasthan, a man allegedly got his wife gang-raped over dowry and took the video of the horrific deed to share the same on the internet. The incident was reported from Bharatpur, about 190 km from the state capital Jaipur.
According to reports, the man involved two of his family relatives and asked them to gang-rape his wife after her family failed to pay Rs.1.5 lakhs in dowry. The incident was only brought to light after the survivor herself filed a complaint against the husband and his two relatives at the Kaman police station.
As per the complainant, she was being harassed over dowry since her marriage in 2019. After being harassed over dowry, the woman had decided to go back to her parents’ house and live there. However, her husband had come forward and convinced her to come back to his home.
It was then that her husband involved his relatives and the woman was gang-raped. The husband took the alleged video on his smartphone before uploading the visuals on internet.
According to the police, a case has been registered against the alleged accused and the allegations regarding him are being investigated.
The Facts of the Matter
A horrific incident has sent shockwaves across Rajasthan where a woman has alleged being gang-raped over not being able to give dowry. The survivor has alleged that her family couldn’t pay her husband Rs. 1.5 lakhs in dowry, and following which, the man decided to involve his relatives and asked them to gang-rape her. He also allegedly took video of the horrific crime and shared the same on internet.
Couple Got Married in 2019, Woman Harassed Dowry
According to report, the survivor and her husband got married back in 2019. Following their wedding, the husband allegedly started harassing the woman for dowry. The woman decided to leave her husband’s home and started living with her parents. However, her husband successfully convinced her to come back.
Husband Convinces Wife to Come Back, Sets Trap
One of the accused reportedly brought the survivor back to Kaman, Rajasthan five days ago. This was when the husband allegedly asked two of his relatives to gang-rape her. The survivor also alleged that her husband filmed the horrific crime on video, and wanted to make the dowry money by distributing it on internet.
Police Begins the Probe
It was the survivor herself who filed a complaint against all the involved accused. In her statement, the survivor claimed that she was able to run away from her husband’s home after the incident and went back to her home again.
The police has filed a case and are ascertaining whether the allegations on the video being shared on internet are true or not.
Sorry State of Safety for Women in Rajasthan
According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Rajasthan reported the most number of rape cases in India in 2020. This is especially concerning as a significant chunk of India’s population was forced to not go out due to the nationwide lockdown triggered by COVID-19. The lockdown also had a drastic effect on people who could come forward and report crimes.
In 2020, Rajasthan recorded 5,310 rape cases followed by Uttar Pradesh (2,769), and Madhya Pradesh (2,339). Further, the state also registered the highest number of rapes against minor girls with 1,279 such cases.
In terms of overall cases of crimes against women, the state reported a total of 34,535 cases, the third most in the country in 2020.
