Another Gujarat Conman Poses as CMO official, Uses Fake Authority to Cheat, Rape Woman, Arrested
After a Gujarat-based conman posed as a PMO official and took J&K authorities to spin, another conman from Gujarat was recently booked for allegedly posing as a CMO official, and using his fake authority to cheat and rape a woman. The accused in the matter was identified as Viraj Ashwin Patel, a Sargasan village resident.
The matter came to the fore when Viraj posed as an official of the CMO and the president of GIFT City in Gandhinagar during a brawl at a multiplex in Vadodara late on Friday night. The police caught him red-handed and the woman accompanying him filed a police complaint against Patel for allegedly raping her several times from April 8 onwards after promising to make her the “brand ambassador” of GIFT City.
In a second-FIR filed by the Mumbai-based woman, she claimed that the accused promised her a flat in suburban Mumbai. She even received two bank cheques, of Rs 70 lakh and Rs 5 lakh, from Patel. But things took a dark turn when Patel allegedly withdrew over Rs 35 lakh from the woman’s account, proposed marriage to her, and repeatedly raped her every day in Goa.
According to police sources, Patel provided forged identity documents and also impersonated government officials. The police have arrested Viraj under multiple sections of IPC, pertaining to cheating, rape and more.
The Facts of the Matter
In a startling case of audacity and deceit, a man from Gandhinagar has been booked by the Vadodara police for allegedly impersonating an official of the Gujarat chief minister’s office and raping a Mumbai-based woman. The accused, Viraj Ashwin Patel, reportedly tried to pass himself off as a high-ranking government official to gain the trust of his victim. Using his fake authority and the promise of a dream job, he was able to trap the unsuspecting woman and commit heinous crimes.
How a Brawl Unraveled Conman’s Web of Lies
It was a Friday night like any other when a brawl broke out at a multiplex in Vadodara. Amidst the chaos, a man stepped forward, claiming to be an official from the Gujarat chief minister’s office. Viraj Ashwin Patel, a resident of Sargasan village in Gandhinagar, was attempting to pass himself off as a high-ranking government official to intimidate his opponents. But little did he know, his audacious plan was about to come crashing down around him.
The police soon arrived on the scene and began to scrutinize Patel’s claims. It quickly became clear that he had provided them with forged identity documents, and his story was unraveling fast. The accused had been impersonating government officials to gain power and influence.

Accused Promised Woman a Dream Job
But that was just the tip of the iceberg. The police soon discovered that Patel was embroiled in something far more sinister. A woman who had been accompanying him filed a police complaint, alleging that Patel had repeatedly raped her from April 8 onwards, under the guise of offering her a dream job as the “brand ambassador” of GIFT City.
Luxurious Flat, Private Jet, Cheques Worth 75 Lakhs
The woman told the police that she had first received a call from an agency claiming that she had been selected for the prestigious position. The agency gave her Patel’s number and he soon arrived in Mumbai to meet her. He promised her a luxurious flat in suburban Mumbai and even took her around to see properties all day. Later that evening, he claimed that he was waiting for permission to fly a private jet to the Maldives and handed over two bank cheques to her, totaling Rs 75 lakh.

Things Take Dark Turn
The accused convinced the woman that his parents were arriving from the US for a “surprise engagement” and that he had booked a suite at a luxury hotel in Goa. The next morning, he allegedly withdrew over Rs 35 lakh from her account and then proposed marriage to her. But when the woman refused, Patel turned violent and forced himself upon her, raping her repeatedly every day.
