Devanshi Sanghvi, 8-Year-Old Daughter of Gujarat Business Tycoon, Leaves Life of Luxury to Become Monk
An 8-year-old girl child has been turning heads in Gujarat for her shocking decision to leave a life of luxury and become a monk. Devanshi Sanghvi, daughter of a wealthy business tycoon in Surat, Gujarat, is being looked with amazement in her community, for deciding to step into monkhood at such a young age. She recently took ‘diksha’ in the presence of prominent Jain monk, Acharya Vijay Kirtiyashsuri.
As per reports, Devanshi Sanghvi, is the eldest daughter of a prominent diamond merchant Dhanesh Sanghvi. After participating in as many as 367 Jain initiation events, she will be living the rest of her rather long life as a monk or Jain monk. To commemorate her sainthood, her family held a huge procession, one that reminded people of what it would be if Kings and Queens still presided in towns.
Her procession comprised of elephants, horses, camels, and a long entourage of Jain devotees. The event was also telecasted on local news channel. Speaking to media, Devanshi’s family acquaintance said that the 8-year-old has lived most of her never watching any shows or films. Neither has she visited a restaurant or any other indulgent establishment.
While she could’ve lived a life of luxury, being the daughter of a business merchant, or even could’ve expanded the business, she decided to renounce it all.
The Facts of the Matter
Remember when you were 8 – by and large, you were an innocent and naïve child, filled with hopes and dreams. You had hopes to become pilot and soar the sky, or become a great leader, to make name for your family. At such a young age, no one can fault a child of dreaming. However, an 8-year-old girl is turning heads for her shocking decision of renouncing the materialistic world, and becoming a monk.

Devanshi Never Watched Films Or Visited Restaurants
8-year-old Devanshi Sanghvi has never watched a television show or a film, her family claims. Neither has she visited a restaurant, a mall or a fancy establishment which children enjoy to fullest. The 8-year-old girl, who practices the Jain religion, has taken a huge step of becoming a ‘sadhvi’ or a monk.

Not-So-Humble Background, Humble Raising
Her decision is rather shocking, when one gets to know more about her background. She is the eldest daughter of Dhanesh Sanghvi, a prominent diamond merchant from Surat.
Despite having the privilege to see all she desired, Devanshi got to learn the ways of her religion thanks to her father and mother Ami.
Dhanesh and Ami followed the simple lifestyle as per Jain directives, and also saw their daughter Devanshi follow the same routine. Further, Devanshi also started following the custom of three-time prayers, and consuming the things only allowed in her religion.
Doing Fast At Age 2, Waling 600 km
When she was a 2-year-old girl, she performed ‘upvas’ (fast), and had a determination to become a monk. To do so, she participated in as many as 367 dikshas (event where one takes monkhood). Moreover, the 8-year-old girl was allowed to get diksha, after she walked over 600 km with other monks, practiced other rather strict routines.
Procession with Horses & Elephants Taken Out
Earlier on Tuesday this week, she received a monkhood worthy of a queen. A huge procession was held in her honour, which was telecasted on local news channels. The procession saw a huge number of Jain practitioners coming to witness the unique ceremony. Further, elephants, horses and camels were also part of the procession.
