'Maggi Case’– Ballari Man Files Divorce After Wife Cooks Only Maggi for All Three Meals!

A man is opting to go for an instant divorce over instant noodles. In Ballari, a man has filed divorce after his wife has been cooking Maggi for all three meals. Labeling the case as ‘Maggi case’, sessions court judge ML Raghunath spoke with New Indian Express about couple opting for divorces over petty and trivial issues. In his interview with the newspaper, the session court judge said that the strange ‘Maggi case’ emerged when he was a district judge in Ballari, Karnataka.

Reportedly, the husband was irked to find out that his wife did not know any other food to prepare other than instant noodles. The wife, not knowing much about cooking other food, used to prepare Maggi for breakfast, lunch and dinner – all three meals in the day. Mr. Raghunath said how the couple ultimately had to get divorce based on the trivial matter on mutual consent.

In his interview, Mr. Raghunath said that there have been cases where courts have received divorce pleas for trivial matters such as not talking to the partner, putting the salt on the wrong side of plate, for not taking partner out, and more.

With a penchant for humour, Mr. Raghunath claimed that arranged marriage is getting bitten by a snake without the intention for it and love marriage is like getting intentionally bitten by snake.

The Facts of the Matter

According to studies, India ranks lowest in the world when it comes to the global divorce rate rise. At least than 1%, It’s the lowest in the list, with US being at 46% and Luxembourg, with the highest rate – at 87%.

Although global divorce rate rise is the lowest in India, it truly doesn’t account to the fact that India has been seeing some incredibly unique cases of divorce where partners often choose to call it quits over trivial matters.

Judge Shares Case of ‘Maggi Divorce’

Recently, a New Indian Express report shared a unique case of divorce, which can truly be dubbed as ‘Maggi Divorce’. The incident came as an anecdote by sessions court judge and district judge ML Raghunath.

Wife Knew Nothing to Prepare Other than Maggi

In his interview with the newspaper, ML Raghunath mentioned about a husband who had approached the court to get a divorce from his wife, over Maggi. The sessions court judge claimed that the husband, a Ballari resident, was irked to find out that his wife knew nothing to prepare other than instant noodles.

Couple had to Get Divorced on Mutual Consent

“The husband said his wife did not know how to prepare any food other than Maggi noodles. It was noodles for breakfast, lunch and dinner. He complained that his wife went to the provision store and brought only instant noodles,” Mr. Raghunath was quoted in the New Indian Express report.

The judge called the case ‘Maggi case’, and added that the couple had to get divorced on mutual consent.

Bhopal wife Sought Divorce After Husband Quit Drinking Beer

While the case may sound too strange to be true, there have been similar instances of a partner wanting a divorce for a seemingly trivial or strange reason. Earlier in 2020, a wife in Bhopal sought divorce from her husband after her husband left drinking beer.

Bihar Woman Went for Divorce As Husband Didn’t Take Regular Bath

Similarly, in Bihar the same year, a 20-year-old woman sought divorce as her husband avoided taking baths regularly. In her plea, the woman claimed that her husband stunk due to not bathing regularly and also added that he doesn’t brush his teeth, and avoids shaving as well.

UP Wife Goes for Divorce Because Husband Loves her “Too Much”

2020 was a strange year, as we would all like to admit it. In 2020, a woman from Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh, sought divorce from husband, claiming that he “loves her” too much and alleged that he doesn’t fight with her. The woman claimed that she felt suffocated I such an environment, and hence, was seeking a divorce.
