Fishy Heist: Video Shows People in Bihar Rushing to Streets to Collect Fishes after Truck Carrying Fishes Lose Control

Fishy Heist

In what can be dubbed as ‘fishy heist’, video has emerged online which shows people in Bihar rushing to streets to collect fishes after a truck carrying them lost control and dropped them on the streets. The incident was reported from Bihar’s Gaya district in the Amas police station area.

Reportedly, earlier this month, a truck carrying fishes lost control, which led to several fish’s fall on the puddled ridden streets. The puddle didn’t matter to the citizens of the district who decided to capitalize on the chaos on the streets. These citizens were seen carrying buckets of varying sizes, out and about on the street, filling the buckets with as many fishes as they can.

While the incident may sound strange and isolated one to that extent, a similar incident was reported from Mumbai-Ahmedabad earlier on April 24. According to reports, a tanker carrying edible oil overturned on the highway, which attracted several locals who looted the overflowing oil from the tanker.

Similarly, in December 2021, a fuel tanker overturned in Haiti which attracted several locals wanting to loot the oil. Unfortunately, the truck exploded, charring at least 50 persons, in the tragic mishap.

The Facts of the Matter

It’s often said that there’s no such thing as a free lunch. However, residents in Bihar’s Gaya district had a fascinating twist-of-fate where they got a figurative and literal alternative to a free lunch. The incident, which can clearly be dubbed as ‘Fish Heist’, occurred earlier on Saturday last week and visuals of the same started dropping on social media earlier this week.

Steal It Like There’s No Tomorrow

According to reports, in Gaya district’s Amas police station area, a truck carrying fish somehow lost its control and almost overturned, making the fishes ‘rain’ on the locals. The locals, who were out and about on the streets, doing their own thing, halted all that they were out for, and jumped on the fishes fallen on the puddled streets as if there was no tomorrow.

What Does the Video Show?

In the video gone viral, people can be seen carrying buckets of varying sizes, dropping the fishes in them. A woman can be seen picking up a fish and stuffing it in her saree.

While torrential rains, landslides, and accidents are known for causing long traffic jams, in Bihar’s Gaya, a long traffic snarl came about due to the above mentioned ‘fish rain’.

Similar Incident Happened in Raipur

It should be noted that this is not the first time such an incident transpired. Earlier in January 2021, a truck full of fishes overturned on a highway in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. Much akin to the Bihar incident, locals around Raipur also rushed to the scene and stole the fishes before police could arrive and disperse the crowd which also resulted in a traffic jam.

Police Makes Locals Give Back Stolen Fishes

After the police were alerted and they arrived on the spot, locals were stopped from stealing any more fishes. The police and the locals then decided to help the overturned vehicle out and turned it upright. People, who were still at the spot were asked to put the fishes they stole back in the truck. The truck was then sent on its way to its destination, Raipur.
